From the war in Afghanistan and Iraq to conflicts in Lebanon, Gaza, the Solomon Islands and East Timor, Mike has also covered some of the world’s worst disasters like the earthquakes in Pakistan, China and Haiti and the devastating ones in his hometown of Christchurch.
After a ten year reporting career with Radio New Zealand based in Christchurch Mike moved to Auckland to work with Television New Zealand. There he reported for One News and the daily current affairs Holmes programme for six years.
In 2001 Mike moved to TV3 where he now reports and anchors their flagship six o’clock news hour 3News and current affairs show 60 Minutes.
He is a multiple award winner, including New Zealand journalist of the year in 2006.
In recent years he has also been an international judge for the News and Current Affairs category of the prestigious US Emmy Awards.
In 2010, Mike released his best selling memoir “Beyond the Frontline” documenting some of the biggest stories of the past decade and how he reported on them.
