Mark holds a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University, New York, a diploma in International Law (Hons) also from Columbia, a MCom (Hons) in Economics, and Bachelor degrees in Commerce and Arts from The University of Auckland. Mark worked as an attorney in New York, and then as senior adviser to CEOs at a number of Fortune 500 companies for McKinsey & Company.
Mark became CEO of New Zealand Stock Exchange in June 2002. During his time at the helm he led it through its transformation into a mutual listed company, changed the exchange's overall approach, and brought home the role and relevance of capital markets to New Zealand's future to both the public and government. Mark's leadership of the NZX has marked a turning point, creating investor confidence in the New Zealand market, and attracting both national and international buyers. He left in 2012 and in August 2014 became Group Chief Executive Officer for Mediaworks New Zealand.
Mark swam for New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 and at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. He has been on the board of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, was an inaugural recipient of a Peter Blake Emerging Leader award, and is on the board of Springboard Trust, which strives to improve capabilities of charities.
Mark received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006.
From 2014 to 2016 Mark was the CEO of Mediaworks.
