Georgina was born 1957 - part Maori and worked as a stripper and prostitute in Wellington and Sydney before undergoing a full sex change. She has also worked as an actor, publicist and broadcaster.

Georgina was elected Carterton District Councillor in 1993 and Mayor in 1995. She became the World's first transgender Member of Parliament in 1999 and was re-elected 2002 as Wairarapa MP with an increased majority. Georgina returned to Parliament as List MP in the 2005 elections. She continued in Parliament until her resignation on 14th February 2007.
